The Second Nature Footsteps Program
Second Nature Footsteps program is for young teenagers, ages 11 to 14. It is clinically driven and licensed to conduct experiential and wilderness interventions in order to assist the teens in their individual path to strengthened self-esteem, fortified communication in order to improve relationship skills, responsibility, and personal awareness. The program pays particular attention to structuring daily programming and creating an environment where the teens can have the needed balance of activity, therapy, staff support, personal time, team work, and fun by taking advantage of the teen’s openness and inherent curiosity, and using resources like play, nature, and metaphor.
The Footsteps treatment model focuses on the teen’s experiences, the environment, and the teen’s experiences when in a group. The program recreates a family-like environment with the appropriate challenges, relationships, stimulations, feedback, boundaries, and structure where the teens are able to create awareness of their relationships, coping skills, and behaviors.
